Jocelyn's grandfather passed away unexpectedly last week, so she and Bella headed to Indiana, Pennsylvania to celebrate his life and help pack his home up. So this has been a somewhat somber week for her and the family, especially Jocelyn's mother who was so close to him. Dino lived a full and interesting life and always had stories. After 3 years in the Coast Guard he came back home as a coal miner. Not satisfied with that quality of life, Dino opened his own bar in Indiana, PA which he ran until their retirement. Jocelyn's grandmother, Della, had passed away over 10 years ago and I'm sure life wasn't the same without her. In fact, Jocelyn tells me that he hasn't even used the oven since...now that's a bachelor! From what I hear he was one of the most popular guys in town, right after the actor Jimmy Stewart, and I can certainly see why. Everyone loved Dino.
Personally he was quite the character, supposedly wearing a wig at the flea market to get his customers to laugh! I don't think I ever saw him mad and he always put others first. Despite his dislike of flying, he went all the way to Fargo for the wedding, saying he ''wouldn't miss it for the world". I spent Christmas with him and the family two years ago and replaced a light switch, which he for some reason thought was incredible and always told me how much he appreciated that, even a year later.
I'll never forget Dino Scardigli, even though I only spent what amounts to a few weeks getting to know him. I am thankful for a life well lived and for him passing without too much pain, trusting that he's still smiling now and as proud as ever of his family and granddaughter.
